Water Boys (ウォーターボーイズ)

Okay, so first of all I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and was anticipating me to make another review. So here it is. Today's review is going to be on the drama Water Boys.

First, let's start with CrunchyRoll's summary of the drama:
During the summer two years ago, five high-school boys brought fame to a small town in Japan. What was so unique, was that they formed a "men's synchronized swimming club." Their involvement and struggles while learning synchronized swimming-known to be a sport for girls-brought much attention to their school and town.

Two years have passed since that summer, and the boys of Tadano High School are still in the club. The Fuji Television drama "Water Boys" shows how these young boys fight to learn synchronized swimming, fall in love, and enjoy friendship with one another.

The cast for this drama is:
Yamada Takayuki as Shindo Kankuro

Kashii Yu as Hanamura Kyoko
Tani Kei as Mr. Ozaki
Fuse Akira as Mr. Yamaoka

Ikari Yukiko as Shindo Hitomi
Nishida Naomi
Katayama Reo as Kitajima Daichi
Aibu Saki as Hayakawa Atsumi
Hiraizumi Sei as Mr. Tatematsu

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This drama is basically about two high school boys who want to start a synchronized swimming team but the school and the community is saying no to it. The two main characters are Tatematsu and Shindo. This is their last year in high school and these two really wants to start the team before their high school life ends. The year before, the school did have a synchro. swim team but Shindo was so nervous that he was unable to perform because he said he had diarrhea. He had spent the whole competition in the restroom and regretted not being able to perform. The reason for the community not wanting the team to appear is that the year before, during the performance, the streets were in a mess and people had to clean up everything. The school does not want the students to be on the team is because in the past, people who were on the synchronized swiming team all got bad test results and some were unable to get into college. Shindo cannot get his mind off swimming so he and Tatematsu try their best to making it happen. They both have fun practicing and find a few people to swim with. They experience tough times and get into quite some trouble. They eventually get to performm, but after a lot of hard work.

I would give this drama a perfect 5 out of 5 because it had romance, comedy, action, and much more. There was very few errors with this drama execpt the fact that each episode felt long. Other than that, it was a really good one. There is also a movie special and a second season to this. I'll make a review for those some other time. Enjoy this one.

My rating: 5 out of 5

Hana Kimi - Japan (花ざかりの君たちへ)

Hana Kimi is a very popular drama that has two versions: Taiwanese and Japanese. Hana Kimi - Japan was aired in the year 2007.

I have seen the Japanese version and I liked it very much so. I have seen the first few episodes of the Taiwanese version and did not like it. There are people I know who I asked if they had liked the Taiwanese version and they had said that they did not like it either. The people that I asked about the Taiwanese version said that the main character had some problems.

For me, the girl trying to be a guy in the Taiwanese version looks too much like a guy. I did not like that person. In the Japanese version you can still tell the girl was a girl the whole time but at the same time still know that she was trying to be a he. The main character's hair style can be unisexual.

CrunchyRoll summary:
Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese girl in the U.S., one day sees the young athlete Izumi Sano compete in the high jump on television. She begins to idolize him, and decides to move to Japan to attend the same school as him. However, Izumi goes to an all-boys school, so Mizuki disguises herself as a boy to achieve her dream of being with her idol.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The cast for this drama is:
Horikita Maki - Ashiya Mizuki
Oguri Shun - Sano Izumi
Ikuta Toma - Nakatsu Shuichi
Konno Mahiru - Hara Akira
Kamikawa Takaya - Umeda Hokuto
Matsuda Seiko - Tsubaki, the School Principal
Ukaji Takashi - Sawatari
Kobayashi Susumu - Yoshioka
Okada Yoshinori - Ashiya Shizuki
Daito Shunsuke - Sano Shin
Shirota Yuu - Kagurazaka Makoto
Moriguchi Yoko - Nanba Io
Harada Natsuki - Tanabe Kanako
Yamazaki Hajima - Ashiya Takumi
Tsutsui Mariko - Ashiya Eiko

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I guess I could recommend this drama out to people who have not yet already watched it. The drama was a good one but once you stop watching it for the day then you feel like you don't have the mood and energy to continue to watch another episode. Of course for myself, I was watching this drama as it was coming out so I always had the feeling of not wanting to watch it. However, everytime I started watching it I couldn't stop and was barely able to wait for the next upcoming episode.

So I suggest you watch this if you are willing to watch a majority of it before taking breaks from it.

I would give this drama a 4.3 out of 5. This drama was funny and hilarious but took some time for me to get into it.

My rating: 4.3 out of 5

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would recommend this drama to anyone, especially if you are interested in romance related genres. If you like the actors Shida Mirai and/or Haruma Miura then I would recommend this indefinitely. This drama tells about how a 14-year-old teenager will slowly progress herself into a mother. She remains to be fun and sees the good side to everything but at the same time she knows when it is to be sesrious. This drama follows a 14-year-old pregnant teenager and the life of her boyfriend. His boyfriend's mother's company is inbig money trouble in which they are trying to escape and make a return but they are getting deeper into trouble until he finally is able to convince his mother to start fresh.

As an amateur critic I would rate this drama a 4.8 and quite possibly a 5 because to me this was an excellent drama that cannot be replaced by any other no matter how great it is. It gets a 4.8 because of the fact that there are probably pretty good dramas out there that this drama was unable to cover.

However to me, this was a great drama that will live in me for all eternity.

My rating: 4.8 out of 5
